I get asked that question by half the people I give estimates to.
Well I can buy a new sofa for $ 700 or a new chair for $450 , why should I pay to recover an old sofa my parents gave me , that they only paid $ 800 for in 1985?
Here is why , today's furniture is made to be throwed away in a couple of years. Why ? Because the furniture stores want to sell you new furniture every few years so they can continue to make money.
Nothing today is made as well as it was 20 plus years ago. Back then furniture was built to last for decades not months . Old sofas and chairs were made from real wood not plywood . They had steel springs do elastic webbing and foam cushions that you could sit on for years and they would hold they shape.
Re purpose that "old sofa " and keep it out of the landfill by reupholstering it .
