Furniture Shopping , What to look for in a sofa.

When shopping for furniture in today's market, there are somethings you need to know. Not all frames are made the same, plywood and particle board is no substitute for a hardwood frame. Plywood can't take the stress put on a frame with everyday use, the joints get loose or crack and plywood get weak of the stress that springs puts on a frame. A hardwood frame will last for years and can be reupholstered many times a give new life and new style .

Many of todays new frames have to use rubber webbing instead of springs, but rubber webbing wears out in a short time and soon you feel like you're sitting on the floor. So look for furniture that has springs , you can tell by looking the area under the cushions, you can feel the springs under the cushions. So look for these things in a sofa or chair and you'll get better furniture.

Beautifull & Functional Living Room Design

“Where do I begin” is a question we are often confronted with when one begins to even entertain the process of creating a new living room in their home. When it comes to living room design ideas we need to consider the the following: with so many activities to cater for and so many people to keep happy, this space will be a success only if planned appropriately. Good living room design, practically speaking must consider the many activities one wishes to accommodate in the space while at the same time using decorative finishes that are aesthetically pleasing while functioning as the families gathering area.Your starting point when it comes to designing the living rooms is, as always, determining exactly what you want from this room as this will dictate the space planning. Perhaps you’ve been perusing your favorite Interior Design magazines noticing different ideas you find pleasing. Tear these pages out and use them to assemble your personalized design scrap book. Additionally, you’ll want to write down all your design ideas to help you decide on the rooms ultimate functionality.

Is the space to be a leisure room for quiet reading, listening to music, letter writing, watching television? An entertainment room for family parties, including an area perhaps for board games? Are you considering surround sound entertainment for the ultimate in movie watching? Will you be needing a small desk to accommodate a computer? Maybe your idea is to incorporate all of the above.

These activities as diverse as they are, will require a lighting plan, audio and video equipment, appropriate storage and furniture to suite these needs. This will include case goods as well as upholstered pieces. By including these things in your scrap book which should have your design plan as well will give you the help you need to stay focused on the end result, your beautifully functioning living room.

When deciding on your furniture layout, it is important to establish a focal point, a point of interest that can be highlighted and around which the furniture will be arranged. If the main function of this living room will be for reading and relaxing perhaps the focal point would be the fireplace, if one exists. On the other hand if a home theatre is ultimately the main use of your living room then the television would be the more obvious focal point.

If your living room is a large space you may consider having several areas around which you can arrange conversational groupings.

Choosing the style for your new space can be as much fun as choosing the new materials you plan to use. Most of us with homes here in San Elijo Hills are accustom to the “California Contemporary” style of architecture. This style in fact lends itself very nicely to “transitional” design elements as well as contemporary. Your style may be inspired by a beautiful piece of art, a favorite family heirloom or just pictures of things you’ve collected in your design scrap book. Whatever style you eventually choose trust your gut and just go for it! In the end you’ll be glad you did.

Upholstery Fabric Something to look for. From La Costa Upholstery

When shopping for Upholstery Fabric look at the double rubs to see if the fabric will wear well. Most fabric companies now list the durability rating on their samples. The ratings go from as low as 5000 to 120000 double rubs and  the more the  better. The ratings go with the fiber content and weave of the fabric
( how many threads per inches). The price of the fabric has nothing to do with rating of a fabric. Fabrics with
a rating of 18000 and more get a heavy duty rating. And that is where you should start for a fabric for furniture you use everyday, you can go with a lower number for a bedroom chair that get little use. Furniture is an investment spend your money on things that last.
