“Where do I begin” is a question we are often confronted with when one begins to even entertain the process of creating a new living room in their home. These activities as diverse as they are, will require a lighting plan, audio and video equipment, appropriate storage and furniture to suite these needs. When deciding on your furniture layout, it is important to establish a focal point, a point of interest that can be highlighted and around which the furniture will be arranged. If the main function of this living room will be for reading and relaxing perhaps the focal point would be the fireplace, if one exists. On the other hand if a home theatre is ultimately the main use of your living room then the television would be the more obvious focal point.

If your living room is a large space you may consider having several areas around which you can arrange conversational groupings.

Choosing the style for your new space can be as much fun as choosing the new materials you plan to use. Most of us with homes here in San Elijo Hills are accustom to the “California Contemporary” style of architecture. This style in fact lends itself very nicely to “transitional” design elements as well as contemporary. Your style may be inspired by a beautiful piece of art, a favorite family heirloom or just pictures of things you’ve collected in your design scrap book.
