As for the poor quality of cushion filling, we see a lot of "blendown" cushion fill. Customers have paid for down blend cushions and think that they are getting a high quality fill. What they are actually paying for is a blend of poly fiber mixed together with a 10/90 down feather blend. If the furniture is in a formal room that gets little use, this may be OK but the reality is, this type of fill clumps terribly and with regular use, it's a mess. Oddly enough, most of these cushions still have a ticking cover that is baffled but the lesser quality fill just doesn't hold up. My advice to anyone that is purchasing new furniture from a retail store is to select the least expensive cushion fill and then have a shop like ours put in high quality fill. We can customize the fill to suit their individual needs.

Foam for your Furniture by La Costa Upholstery
La Costa Upholstery
In the last 4-6 years we have seen an increase in the number of customers that want new filling in their cushions. It seems that replacing the fill will give them several more years of use before they either need to recover or replace the furniture. Part of this is probably due to the poor quality of the fill in the store purchased furniture. Part of this is probably due to the change in the economy, people are holding on to or living with furniture that is wearing out vs replacing/recovering.
