When you call around and prices to re upholstery you'll get a whole range of prices for the same work. Why can the same piece cost $325 at one place and $495 at an other. Some of that maybe what you are really getting for your money. Many upholsterers don't remove the old fabric for the frame and just cover over it. The problem with that is the old fabric holds old dirt , stains and smells. And you can't  hide all of that by just putting fabric over it. The old fabric needs to come off , the finish product just looks better. An other short cut many upholsterer do is not re padding the frame . A good upholsterer will always put a fresh layer padding on the entire frame and wrap the cushions , again the finish product just looks better.
